Vitalik Buterin Expresses His Support for Ukraine After Russian Attack
After the open Russian attack that happened in Ukraine this morning, Ethereum creator Vitalik Buterin posted a tweet supporting Ukraine and world democracy. He claimed,
“I’m very disappointed by Putin’s decision to abandon the possibility of a peaceful solution to the dispute and chosoe a military way to go. This is a crime against both Ukrainian and Russian nations. I want to wish everyone security, although I know that there will be no security. Glory to Ukraine.”

In the next tweet, Vitalik Buterin admitted that while Ethereum itself stays neutral, he does not. It’s not his first public announcement of this position. Previously, he urged Putin to stop aggression and manipulation.
To briefly summarize the situation, the President of the Russian Federation recognized territories that terrorists are temporarily occupying as independent. After that, he officially sent Russian troops into the area. However, this morning (Kyiv time), Vladimir Putin attacked most Ukrainian cities with missiles after proclaiming the current democratically chosen Ukrainian government as a neo-Nazi regime.
The events tanked the crypto market as well. Bitcoin dropped 5.6% in less than two hours to $34,958, while Ethereum fell by 7.7% to US$2,382 right after the missiles hit the ground of Ukraine. Most of the top 100 cryptos have suffered a 10–15% loss in the last 24 hours.
